Need a good book?

I am reading a couple of books right now that are thought provoking and having quite an impact on me. Here are some samples from them:

"Always trying to look good is a terrible burden to bear. The problem is that your conscience condemns you because you must do everything perfectly. You mentally make a list of how to be the perfect wife, mother or daughter. If you do fairly well, then you become the judge of those who don't make it according to your lists. If you don't measure up, you either try harder or give up... When we come to Jesus, we take the sinner's place. We stop trying to be what we are not and admit instead what we are. By faith then, we are justified before God and enter into peace."

Rose Marie Miller in From Fear to Freedom

Paul David Tripp writes in Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands
about a little child's birthday party. The party girl was sitting at the end of the table with all of her presents situated in front of her. Another classmate was sitting next to her with his arms folded and "hummmphing" loudly. One mom recognized his jealously was rising and approached him saying, "Johnny, this is not your party!" Tripp uses this illustration to say that our lives are not our own. We are a part of God's greater story. We are here to display His glory. I have found this thought to be so convicting on one hand because of how I tend to behave like that selfish child demanding that everything and everyone fall into place to make my life better. Yet, this truth is also humbling and amazing. I am invited to enter into God's "party" where He displays His sovereign purposes. The messes and mishaps of life take on new meaning when I consider this truth in life. Through this book, I am reminded that Jesus frees me to think of myself less.
