33

august is my birthday month. i am turning the ripe old age of 33 and the signs of life are upon me. about a year ago, i began noticing more and more grey mixed in with my hair. i began a vicious attack each night with the tweezers in my hand. i knew i could win this battle. but, slowly the hair would grow back and i'd then have little grey flags on my head waving to everyone to be sure they were seen. i decided eventually that my defense was not working and it would probably be better for all of us to just let it grow out. since then the grey population is overtaking my head, or so it seems to me. i've never really colored my hair (not counting that one attempt when no one could even tell) and i always feel confused about which route to take. $10.00 at the local drug store and risk some crazy "tint" to my hair or $100.00's at the salon and still risk it not looking "right." i haven't really considered leaving it alone. i saw my dad's hair turn and i just don't think i'd be one of those beautiful-head-of-grey-women-who-still-look-so-young types. so, i'm heading down the hair dye path... and i've decided to turn to the professionals. i actually have an appointment on my birthday... august 18th. so i have another week of my brown hair with grey streaks and then they are gone. maybe i'll post a picture- if it turns out well!
and if any of you have helpful tips on coloring, roots, and all that fun stuff, just let me know!!!

oh please let bp get rid of his back hair...oh please! :) well i'm proud of you for turning to the professionals. i am a fan of them afterall! the last time i let someone do the $10 thing for me, it turned out FROSTED (remember, chicago??). so, since you are already headed toward the naturally frosted look and you want to prevent that....definitely pay the big bucks and have fun with it!!! that will defintely be a great happy birthday prize!

I know this may sound hard to believe, but I have been struggling with the greys myself (and I'm only 25 - sad). I have found that as long as you are doing something that is the around the same as your natural color (i.e. medium to dark brown), you can't really go too wrong with the semi-permanent or "wash out in 16 washes" Wal-Mart stuff. Sure, go to the salon the first few times, but when that gets old, try Loreal. Just pick out a normal color and you'll be amazed. But this time... have fun!

Natural is the only way to go. You are such a beautiful lady, Katie. I wouldn't worry about it so much.

I have been finding some of these too. I tried to convince myself they were blonde streaks or something, but I guess its reality.

As odd as it is (or isn't) my hair doesn't turn grey. That's right, it goes straight to white. Not only that, but those hairs grow at least twice as fast as my regular hair (which is moving at a pretty fast clip itself). I decided to ride the bull and go salt and pepper. At the ripe age of 25, however, I'm still mostly pepper with a few grains of salt.

What I really fear is a receding hair line. Maybe I can just use the hair off of BP's back...

what a great gift! You've been worrying about it for too long. you really don't realize that you are one of those natural beauties do you? i might actually miss the saluting greys! you should go to my last stylist at salon blu. she had purple hair.
