the journey of parenting.

these kids are on a journey.
and while i'm thankful that i get to watch them
and participate in it with them,
i often feel overwhelmed
and so unsure of myself as a parent.
we have to make constant choices as parents.
how do we raise our kids?
what are our family values?
who do we want our children to become?
and yet, it's not all up to us.
and the paths we need to take are often unclear.
the water seems a bit murky with a few of my kids these days.
they are growing and changing and
i'm feeling a bit in over my head
in knowing how to help them grow.
but yesterday, a dear friend sent me some great links online
that i'm finding really encouraging.

they are helping me to hold on.
and reminding me that i am not alone as i parent.
i'll keep watching and waiting.
and praying.
i'll remember that there is one who loves my children
even more than i do.

here are some helpful links for continued reading:

about raising kids 9-12 including rites of passage and responsibilities:

about raising boys:

about establishing order and routines in our lives.  (and considering a life of prayer):

(love this one)

Sweet Katie, God was so good to your kids when he chose you for them, and he was also good to me by letting me eat canned biscuits and powder mac-n-cheese and green peas regularly with you. You've always known how to engage people and make them let you in. I am certain that is true for your babies as well. I can't wait to meet them and tell them how jealous I am that they get to be around you so much. Maybe I can aggravate the sprouts in July. Love you. jf

it's the most comforting thought...that He loves these kids so much more than I possibly could!

i don't even want to think about how i'll feel when my kids get older.

Yes, yes & yes to it all. The parenting classes at SES are great resources too. Planning on taking them next year to help navigate things with the kids. Thanks for your resources. You are a fabulous and inspiring Mama to me;).
